About the Vermont Real Estate Meetup
A Note From Mady
Hi there, and welcome to the Vermont Real Estate Meetup! I’m Mady Marquardt, and I’m so glad you’re here.
This group has been an incredible part of my real estate journey, and I wanted to share a little about how we got here. Back in late 2022, the previous host, Dan Beaulieu (founder of Burlington House Buyers), was preparing to move to Tennessee. I had just turned 21, had been attending these meetups since February of that year, and had only been in real estate for about a year and a half. I remember asking Dan if I could take over the group’s email list when he left, thinking, why not give it a shot?
Let’s be clear—I had no idea what I was doing, and honestly, I still don’t, but thankfully, I haven't done this alone. I recruited the help of Mike Cohen, one of the original handful of investors who started these meetups around 2018 (from a Bigger Pockets thread!) by grabbing drinks together to talk shop. Together, with a few other dedicated investors, we kept the meetup alive and growing.
Today, my biggest goal is to keep growing this real estate web of like-minded individuals from all corners of Vermont. Whether you’re an investor, property manager, contractor, attorney, or something else entirely, this is a place for connection and opportunity. I also hope to bridge the gap between our network and other industries, governing bodies, and local causes. The idea is simple: if we work together, we’ll all have access to growth and opportunity wherever we need it most.
For me, running this meetup is a way to give back to the community that’s supported me so much in kicking off my journey (but, on the down-low, I also just love the event planning aspect to it). In spring of 2024, I took the leap and quit my full-time job in commercial property management to pursue investing at Lean Capital full-time. Now that I have more time to dedicate to this group, I’m excited to see where we can take it in 2025 and beyond. Of course, someday, the torch will need to be passed on...who knows, you could be the next one writing a heartfelt About Us page and planning meetups. No pressure, though 🙂
While the meetup is its own independent, not-for-profit effort, it’s supported behind the scenes by Lean Capital, the investment firm I co-founded with Mike Cohen and Megan Talbot. At Lean Capital, we focus on acquiring and managing midsized multifamily properties right here in Vermont. We work directly with property owners who want a transparent, hassle-free sale and connect investors with opportunities to grow their portfolios while supporting Vermont’s economy.
